Today, I read an interesting paper about ChatGPT and Neuroscience.

I wrote a summary:
The prefrontal cortex in the human brain serves critical functions that define human cognition. These include reasoning, mentalizing, decision-making, planning, executive function, emotion regulation, and social cognition.
Therefore, the function of the prefrontal cortex is essential for human intelligence.
Given the advancements in cognitive abilities demonstrated by large language models, the researchers in the current study tested ChatGPT using a standard neuropsychological battery to assess its prefrontal cortex-like functioning.
The results highlighted areas where ChatGPT performed at a normal or superior level compared to typical adults with a college-level education. These areas included verbal reasoning—particularly in differentiating concepts, understanding idiomatic expressions and family relations, metaphor and idiom comprehension, and inhibition.
Overall, its performance in social cognition, such as understanding moral judgment, social situations, and human emotions, was within the normal range.
However, ChatGPT exhibited impaired abilities in planning, comprehending absurdities, and understanding others’ mental states and intentions.
